Obtained this Hon B.Sc., from the University of Toronto in 1979 and articled in Simcoe, Ontario. He obtained his commission as an Ontario Land Surveyor in 1982. He spent five years working along the shores of Lake Erie before moving to Barrie, Ontario and in 1986, started the company Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd. The company grew quickly and became an integral part of the Barrie fabric. Rudy became a member of the Barrie Rotary Club and heavily involved in community projects. Professionally, Rudy became involved in the activities of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors on various committees and programs. Continuing education and forays into new technologies and projects propelled the company forward as each decade passed. Over the past 37 years, Rudy has become a true veteran with expertise in all areas of survey law and the guiding force behind the company’s success and growth. Still involved in day to day operations, his role is increasingly mentoring the next generation of surveyors taking over the reins.
Gurjit Mahant is the Managing Partner of the Barrie office at Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd., where he oversees the firm’s operations while leading complex surveying projects across Ontario. Gurjit is both an Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS) and a Canada Lands Surveyor (CLS), providing professional surveying services.
Gurjit joined Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd. in 2018 and has since played an integral role in the firm’s growth and day-to-day operations. He graduated from York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering with a degree in Geomatics Engineering, and obtained his Ontario Land Surveyor license after completing extensive training under the mentorship of Rudy Mak, O.L.S., and Richard Preiss, O.L.S. (retired).
His professional practice focuses on cadastral and land development surveying, including the preparation of legal survey plans and providing surveying expertise to developers, engineers, planners, lawyers, municipalities, and property owners.
Aaron has been with Rudy Mak Surveying for 9+ years and is currently completing his articles to become an Ontario Land Surveyor. Aaron has been articling directly under the supervision of Rudy Mak and was also fortunate enough to work alongside and gain insightful knowledge from another experienced surveyor, Richard Preiss.

Cheryl McDowell has been employed with Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd. for over 24 years as the Office Manager. Cheryl provides executive assistance to the owner and her fellow managers with respect to the day-to-day communications, organizational and administrative operations of the office. She is responsible for employee relations, human resources, payroll and benefits management, client/vendor liaison, billing, accounts payable/receivables and any other administrative duties required.

Steve Dobo is a graduate of Georgian College and has over 30 years experience in the construction/mapping industry. Steve is a retired partner at Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd., and provides consultation services. Steve has managed projects such as the Nanticoke Generating Station, the Port Colborne Starch Plan, and hundreds of buildings in Barrie from Costco to the waterfront condominiums.

Chris started his surveying career in 2006 with Rodney Reynolds as a field assistant. In 2015, he became the Operations Manager of Reynolds Surveying. Reynolds Surveying was purchased by Rudy Mak Surveying Ltd. in 2022, which is where Chris brought his specialized skills and experience to the Rudy Mak Surveying team.

Jennifer, BBRM (Hons), AdvDip EMX, started with Rudy Mak Surveying in 2019. She is involved in various roles within the company including fieldwork, research, administration, and drafting.
